Up to twelve people can share our largest boats. It's a great way to bring "the whole crowd" together at least once a year. Put children together and they tend to amuse each other. Being on the move means there is always something new to grab their attention.

Meanwhile, parents can share the burden of baby-sitting and everyone gets a chance for some peace and quiet.

Nightlife is available too, of course. It's always your choice whether you moor up in town and go off exploring, or on a remote stretch of rural canal where the only sounds are provided by nature and you wake up to a tranquil view.

Often people compromise and take a quiet mooring with a friendly pub not too far away. As well as town and city centres, canals pass close to museums, stately homes, factory shops and a host of other opportunities to explore. You can chose from a wide selection of guides to make sure you're aware of what's available.

Over the years we've seen groups of friends come back time and again. Often they started in their twenties and now they are showing their children how to steer and go through locks.

A NOTE TO DOG OWNERS

A canal holiday is most dogs' idea of heaven. No more pleading looks to get a walk. Pull over to the bank and off jumps the dog to trot along the tow-path, with you for company.

Gone are the days of wondering whether to take a holiday to suit the children or the parents, and then arranging kennels for the dog. Take a holiday for all of you and make your dog very happy. The first pet travels free and additional pets are charged at just £25 each.
